(Kids Wonderlands)
Every time, while travelling in MRT along the North South line, at near to Khatib MRT station, I will always get attracted by this place with big fishing pond and looks more of Kampong style. Later then, I managed to find out that it is the Bottle Tree Park. I never got a chance to visit it, until one day, where the kids started pestering to go fishing, so we decided to try it out.
The Bottle Tree Park is located at Yishun, Lorong Chencharu. Honestly, it is not easy to locate it especially for the first timer. So please do some homework before you go there.
Once we get down of our car in the car park, the first things that caught our eyes is the Kampong ‘Longkang’ Fishing pond. When my kids saw this, they started jumping high and low and wanted to join in with the rest of children whom seems to have a lot of fun fishing there.
The pond is quite a big with quite a number of partitions to make it easier for the kids to catch the fish. The water is very shallow, thus kids can submerge their feet in the water and have real close contact with the fishes. There are different varieties of fishes such as guppies, swordtails, goldfish etc. It cost $10 per child to fish in the pond, a tank (can bring home with the fishes) & nets (need to return) are included in the cost. There is no time limit, thus the kids can enjoy themselves for the whole days or until they (or their parents) are tired. Every now and then, the staffs will replenish the pond with fishes, thus don’t need to worry that there will be no fishes.
Some parents/adults helped their kids to catch the fish, while some just sit back and relax while watching their kids running around and playing ‘hide and seek’ with the fishes in the pond. It is not difficult to catch the fish there, so you can see kids with tones of fishes in their tank, and the smile on their face when they managed to catch it.
However, do take note of one thing; remember always to bring along extra clothing for the kids, as they will definitely get wet. There is a washing area near the pond, or you can use the toilet which is nearby and quite clean, where you can clean up the kids after they are done.
If you don’t like fishing the ‘Longkang’ fish, you can also try the prawn fishing which is just beside the ‘Long Kang’ (drain) fish pond.
If you feel hungry after all the fishing, you can fill up your stomach at the restaurants there.
Actually, at the Bottle Tree Park, there are other activities, such as
- A huge fishing ponds at the center of the park (the view that can be seen from the MRT) where you could get bigger fishes.
- Swan Paddling through the pond.
- Children playground.
- Car Racing
- Farm and mini-zoo etc..
But we will sure to try it out next time when we come back.
